Organisers of last weekend’s ‘Ruddington Open Gardens’ have revealed it was another great success – securing well over £6,000 to split between their two chosen kids’ charities.
For the fourth time, on Saturday & Sunday 1st & 2nd July 2024, people across our village allowed public access to their own green spaces, for a one-off payment of £5, to help raise funds for Save the Children and Action for Children.
Jane Piggott says: “The huge success was thanks to the tremendous support of local gardeners and allotment holders, village businesses, the Ruddington Yarn Ninjas, the Methodist Church and St Peter’s Church, and our main sponsor, Ridge Clean Energy. We were also extremely lucky to have a weekend of dry and sometimes sunny weather!”
She continues: “We are very grateful to those village businesses who sold programmes for us in advance and to Ruddington Co-op and the Framework Knitters’ Museum, who allowed us to sell programmes before the event. Thank you, too, to Thomas James Estate Agents for erecting their boards so that the gardens could easily be identified.”
It’s estimated between 500 and 600 people toured the 13 private gardens, allotments and other attractions during the course of these two afternoons – visiting from Ruddington and further afield.
Jane and the organisers are hoping they will be able to repeat the success in another two years’ time – with the next Ruddington Open Gardens due to take place in the summer of 2026.
